An interview with I. Undrakhgerel, Director of CITI University’s School of Humanities.

— What were the School of Humanities’ main achievements and developments in the 2024–2025 academic year?

— Our departments of Journalism, Foreign Languages and Education offer six bachelor’s and two master’s programmes. The bachelor’s programmes cover Foreign Language Teacher Education, Early Childhood Teacher Education, Primary Teacher Education, Psychology, Journalism, and Translation and Foreign Language Education. We also offer master’s programmes in Journalism and Education. Forty-two per cent of our faculty hold doctoral degrees or professorial titles. Among our objectives for 2024–2025 was programme accreditation. Our English Teacher Education and Early Childhood Teacher Education programmes received five-year accreditation from the Mongolian National Council for Education Accreditation. Students on these programmes can study with 100 per cent scholarships through non-repayable government education grants.

— Could you explain the eligibility criteria for these scholarships?

— Students must maintain a grade-point average of at least 2.8 to receive this support.

— What international opportunities are available to School of Humanities students, and which universities are your partners?

— CITI University cooperates with universities in approximately 40 countries. Through relevant programmes, students and faculty participate in exchanges, internships, and long- and short-term study. Japanese Translation students join internship programmes in Japan. Chinese-language students study at Chinese universities through Chinese Government Scholarships, International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarships and short winter and summer courses. Most recently, first- and second-year Korean Translation students undertook an introductory placement at a university in Seoul. We also support progression to postgraduate study abroad, where our graduates are continuing their education.

— Do students have sufficient opportunities for research and creative work?

— Yes. CITI University has a research office. School of Humanities faculty and students regularly participate in, and help organise, academic conferences at our own and other universities. We are participating as an organiser of the 11th International Conference on Asian Studies (ICAS 2025), to be held on 2 May 2025.
