CITI University uses Moodle (Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment), a modular learning management system, for online education. It has more than 243 million users worldwide.
Moodle enables internet-based distance learning, allowing faculty and students to connect from any computer with internet access worldwide. Teachers upload course materials and students download and study them. It also enables users to:
- View teaching plans and timetables;
- View examination schedules;
- Conduct online discussions with students;
- Use chat;
- Conduct surveys;
- Enable learner self-assessment;
- Complete exercises and assignments;
- Maintain two-way feedback between teachers and learners;
- Enter student grades;
- View and print grades;
- Generate course, class and work reports;
- Conduct formative and summative assessment;
- Provide users with information and advice.
The system develops opportunities to conduct all teaching activities online in a manner similar to classroom learning. Teachers can monitor participation, time spent reading materials and engagement in discussions, assignments and assessments. This enables teaching to be adapted to learners’ methods, needs, interests and available time.
