Academy Award-Winning Closely Watched Trains to Be Screened
The Czech Film Evenings traditionally organised by the Embassy of the Czech Republic, CITI University and the Golden Reel Film Festival are returning. The Academy Award-winning Closely Watched Trains, adapted from Bohumil Hrabal’s novella of the same name, will be screened in CITI University’s cinema at 16:00 on Saturday, 9 October. The film will be shown in the original Czech with Mongolian subtitles. To comply with the Capital City Emergency Commission’s requirement to limit auditorium occupancy to 50%, please register in advance at Tserendulam_Jamsran@mzv.cz Admission is free for registered viewers. Closely Watched Trains is among the works that transformed Czech literature after the Second World War. It portrays the short life of Miloš Hrma through tragedy and humour. Young love, unusual incidents, bright comic exchanges and the transformation of a man who briefly experiences happiness into a tragic protagonist hold the audience’s attention. We present to students an outstanding work by Bohumil Hrabal, whose bitter irony addresses the tragedies experienced by individuals and nations alike. Join us for Closely Watched Trains.
