CITI University and Mongolian International Arbitration Centre Sign Memorandum of Cooperation

CITI University and the Mongolian International Arbitration Centre at the Mongolian National Chamber of Commerce and Industry have signed a memorandum to cooperate in academic work, teaching and research.

Cooperation formally began with the signing by CITI University Board Chair D. Munkh-Erdene and Mongolian International Arbitration Centre Chair S. Enkhtsetseg.

The parties will organise research conferences, consultations, training and studies; incorporate arbitration law into the School of Law’s bachelor’s curriculum; support faculty specialisation and development; provide student placements; and facilitate graduate employment.

They also agreed to publish arbitration-related books and journals jointly, explain arbitration’s importance, features and advantages to the public, and cooperate with comparable foreign organisations on projects and programmes.

The agreement is significant for law students, who will have opportunities to learn about international arbitration operations, undertake placements and potentially obtain employment.

The parties expressed their positions at the signing ceremony.

CITI University Board Chair D. Munkh-Erdene:

‘The Mongolian International Arbitration Centre is an internationally recognised permanent arbitration institution operating since 1960. We have agreed to cooperate and signed this memorandum today. We will work together to improve public understanding of arbitration’s advantages, characteristics and effective mechanisms for resolving disputes. I am confident that new opportunities for cooperation in academic work, teaching and research will emerge. This year CITI University plans to cooperate with several public and private organisations to expand learning and development opportunities for faculty and students and support graduate employment. I am pleased that the arbitration centre is one of them.’

Mongolian International Arbitration Centre Chair S. Enkhtsetseg:

‘Arbitration as a mechanism for resolving business disputes outside the courts is not well understood, even by some lawyers. Recently, alongside professional and international arbitration organisations, we have sought cooperation with educational institutions. This memorandum with CITI University forms part of that objective.’

‘Cooperation will enable students to study out-of-court business dispute resolution in detail and understand how arbitration differs from courts and what advantages it offers. We will also jointly organise research conferences, offer placements, involve students in research, support employment, and work to improve Mongolia’s mechanisms for resolving disputes outside the courts.’
