Mongolia’s first laboratory for cosmetic replacement and artificial body-part prostheses has opened at CITI University’s School of Beauty Sciences. Research began in 2017, leading to today’s opening. The laboratory uses modern 3D technology to scan body parts, produce preliminary forms with 3D printing and manufacture prostheses using precise German techniques. People with congenital limb differences or amputations following injuries may have limited information about prostheses. The laboratory was established to provide cosmetic replacements and support personal confidence. It offers aesthetic solutions for people with amputations or congenital absence of body parts. Seven or eight colours are mixed to match the wearer’s skin, including veins, fingertip redness and the base colour of the palm. Silicone and acrylic nails can be incorporated, allowing wearers to paint and care for their nails. Metal elements at finger joints allow movements such as grasping and holding. Current work focuses on fingers, hands, feet, ears and noses. G. Khos-Erdene, Senior Lecturer in Professional Makeup at the School of Beauty Sciences, will lead the laboratory. He has undertaken professional development in China, Russia and the Republic of Korea.
